We were needing to embark on a knockdown and rebuild and Jo’s name was given to us via our neighbour. It was important to us that we retained suburban character – we did some research on Jo’s previous homes and style and were instantly impressed!
At our first meeting with Jo, we walked her through our own ideas for the house – size of rooms, layout, what was important to us etc..Jo came back with a concept design inclusive of her own ideas and she was spot on! She had considered the needs of our growing family (2 kids became 3 through the design process), traditional design considerations, bedroom placement and was open and honest on what did and didn’t work well.
We are now in the final stages of build, and the move in date is near! We are so impressed by the design and style of the final product – the layout flows, cabinetry is perfect, the ‘kids zone’ upstairs gives them (and us) separate spaces to retreat and the main living/kitchen area is a place we are looking forward to entertaining in.

We came to Jo with an idea of what we wanted – a beautiful yet practical family home for our three growing sons with plenty of living space and functional areas, with the work spaces of the kitchen, laundry, mudroom and a spacious outdoor entertaining space being high on our list of priorities. We also both work from home, so two home office spaces and a big walk in robe (for me!) were on our wishlist.
We loved that Jo had a family of her own in the next life stage to ours, and that her practical experience combined with her sought after design skills were able to bring our vision to life.

I want to thank you so much for the gorgeous home you have designed for us. We are so grateful that during the COVID-19 lockdown we had the space for the four of us to live, work and study remotely.
When we started the process of searching for someone to design our home, I was wary of the designer who would design something architectural but without the period character and function I was desperate for. You were an answer to my prayers, being someone with a family who specialised in designing beautiful and functional period homes.
We now have a functioning and beautiful home of our own after so many years of living in a renovator’s dream.
I previously had nowhere to put anything. Now, I have plenty of spare cupboards and a huge attic space!
I love having spots for everything, and I feel so spoilt to have my own WIR and ensuite. Every day when I wake up, I appreciate the beauty you have created in my home.
The downstairs bathroom, which proved to be a very challenging space to design is one of my favourite rooms. The layout is perfect, we still have a bath and we have a whopping big cupboard under the stairs for even more storage! So many people comment on how well designed it is.
And it is your attention to the finer details that has been the cherry on top. I love, love, love the finishes you chose for us from the floor and wall tiles, to the kitchen splashback and island, down to the skirting boards.

When we decided to embark on the renovation journey, we did not expect to have architects draw designs for our home with bizarre layouts that did not flow, respect the architecture and period of the house and most importantly, not listen to our needs. This all changed after friends gave us Jo’s contact details.
From the initial meeting, Jo knew exactly what was needed to turn our dark, 1920’s house with a 1970’s extension into a gorgeous family home that flowed seamlessly, was light filled and looked stunning. Jo took into account all our wants and needs and was open and honest as to what would work and what wouldn’t. She has a great understanding of how a family home should function. Upon seeing her design, we were completely blown away and knew we had found the right person.
Creating extra living space, designer kitchen, laundry (with an area for a large indoor drying clothes line), bathrooms and bedrooms, that are all truly beautiful and with more storage than we could ever have imagined.

From our first meeting with Jo we knew she was the one for the job. Her enthusiasm and passion for interior design was infectious and we were immediately excited by her ideas and vision for the renovation and extension of our Victorian home. We were thrilled by her family oriented design ideas, her amazing bathrooms and kitchens, and timeless style.
The design process was just so enjoyable and meeting with her was always fun! Jo was happy to incorporate our ideas into the plans while giving her clear, open and honest opinion. She was always very approachable and generous with her advice during the design and building process. Our builder was very impressed with the level of detail on the plans and finishes schedule and as a result was able to quote very accurately prior to starting the job.
Since moving back into our home we could not have been happier with the design, layout and style. The kitchen is a highlight and is a pleasure to work in. The drying room she included as an extension of the laundry is a simple but now indispensable zone – I’m not sure how we managed previously without it. The dryer has not been used once since moving in and there are no more ugly clothes horses hanging around the house in winter! There is beautiful cabinetry everywhere providing a well thought out space for everything (with plenty leftover). Our previously dark home is now flooded with light and the spaces are now beautiful and practical. Many of our friends have commented that the house feels like ‘one’ house – not an old house with an extension. It flows seamlessly from one end to the other whilst still maintaining the beauty and integrity of the original home.
We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Jo – she has been an absolute pleasure to work with and has exceeded our expectations in creating our dream home. Thank you Jo!

We purchased a 40 year old holiday home 3 years ago on Lake Eildon in Mansfield which was far too small for our Children and ever expanding Grandchildren, we now have 6!
At our very first meeting with Jo we knew she was the one! She totally got our style and more importantly she got us! She understood what we wanted to achieve which was a spacious, comfortable, child friendly home and we definitely wanted the Wow Factor!
It was a 2 year project gutting and totally redesigning the existing house and adding a large extension. Jo’s Design work was perfect, her attention to detail never ceased to amaze us and she gave us so many fabulous ideas that we would never have thought of ourselves. Her colour and finish choices were gorgeous and she held our hand through the whole daunting process of choosing all of the hardware, sanitary ware, kitchen appliances etc. She was ever the professional, nothing was ever a problem for Jo (if it was we never knew about it !).
She also spent many hours with me doing the interior design, this has all resulted in an absolutely beautiful home that we and our family love and enjoy living in.
On a personal level Jo was extraordinary, Con became very ill in the middle of the build and I had to lean on her a lot for decisions he and I should have been making together, she was always happy to listen and help me any way she could, I would not have coped during that time without her care and kindness – not to mention her never ending patience!
I emailed Jo not long after we moved back in and thanked her for making our dream home a reality, because of her amazing design skills and undeniable expertise, we have a home that takes our breath away every time we arrive there. Besides being very beautiful, it is warm and welcoming for our family and friends and yes we got our Wow factor in bucket loads.

It is with much pleasure that I write to tell you how thrilled we are with our newly renovated home. We have now been back for 5 weeks and can honestly say that there is not a part of our renovation we would change.
We purchased our 1890 Victorian Home in 2008, as there were many beautiful features we loved. The large block, the arches, the high ceilings on both levels and the way the house sat elevated in the street. We did, however, inherit a 30-year-old renovation in which the kitchen and laundry were virtually non-existent, the bathrooms badly designed and dated, the lovely staircase was in the completely wrong place and the zones of the house did not flow.
We entrusted you in 2014 with the very difficult task of solving all of these issues without compromising the things we loved about our home and without changing the back of the house. We have only added 15% more living space to our house but it feels like you have given us an entire new wing!
We realise that redesigning our house mainly within existing walls was not an easy task. On top of that, we are first time renovators, renovating our forever home. From the outset we felt so comfortable entrusting the design with you. Your knowledge, understanding, clever design ideas and amazing taste made us feel reassured we were in good hands. In looking back at the process now, I can also say that we are particularly grateful for your conviction, as it is that which ensured we did not stray from our overall vision for our forever home.
Throughout the process you were continually available and accessible. You held my hand when I needed you to and you left me free to make my own design decisions when it was applicable. We will be forever grateful to you Jo for making the experience such a pleasurable one. We are also grateful that we decided to use the builder you recommended, who continued to make our renovating experience quite joyful!

We have recently moved back into our renovated home in Hawthorn which was designed by Jo McIntyre. Jo came highly recommended and she exceeded our expectations with her style, ideas, attention to detail and fabulous customer service throughout the 2 year planning and building process. Jo designed an aesthetically beautiful home which is a delight to live in due to its flow, functionality and storage (we have SO much storage!!). Our home has been designed to cater for our current and future needs and lifestyle. Jo understands the needs of a young family and has designed many smart and functional features into our home. We engaged Jo for building design as well as all internal finishes and cabinetry. The internal design consulting service was incredibly helpful and saved me countless hours trawling around shops, feeling overwhelmed. Our property has a heritage overlay as well as a covenant on the title which made the planning process challenging for us, particularly as we were first-time renovators. Jo maintains very high standards for her work and we found that any other service provider or trades person recommended by Jo operated at a similar level and was a delight to deal with. I often turned to Jo for advice or suggestions well beyond the scope of our contract and Jo was always incredibly engaged and helpful.

These are just some of the phrases we would use to describe Jo McIntyre’s approach to designing our renovation and extension.Nothing was too much trouble for Jo. I knew we were onto a winner in our choice of designer when I visited Jo’s home and saw first-hand what her design creates. Being time poor and both working, we needed someone who had a vision, understood we didn’t have a limitless budget and really understood that our home needed to be functional for our children.
Jo spent hours with us taking us through each draft drawing, making changes, considering all aspects of a beautiful but functional home. She assisted me with colours, tiles, paints and every aspect of my design. She was happy to answer my emails on heating and carpet colour and all manner of lighting queries.

We have recently moved back into our home having just completed a significant renovation and would like to acknowledge the outstanding assistance we received from Jo McIntyre of Beautiful Home.
We started planning for our renovation a number of years ago working with several architects trying rather unsuccessfully to perfect our design plans, but didn’t ever feel that they understood exactly what we were looking for. After much frustration, a friend suggested that we talk to Jo McIntyre.
Living in the Mont Albert/Surrey Hills area, we were familiar with some of Jo’s design projects, and realized that she might just be the person we were looking for.
Right from our first discussion on the phone with Jo, she was enthusiastic and engaged in our project. Jo seemed to know intuitively what we were looking for and we had no hesitation after our first meeting with her that she had a similar vision to us for our home and engaged her the following day. It was one of the best decisions that we’ve made. We just wish we’d met her much earlier!
Jo was absolutely fantastic to work with – in fact there probably aren’t enough superlatives to describe how fabulous she actually was/is.
Jo’s knowledge of the whole process of renovating is extraordinary. She understands designs, costs, building issues, practicality, resale value, – we could go on and on! Jo worked with (and recommended) a number of people throughout the building process, all of whom were also outstanding and whom we would have no hesitation recommending.
Jo particularly understood the needs of our growing family (we have three teenage children and a dog) and our home caters for this in so many ways. From the abundant, clever storage; natural light; separate, well-planned living areas; hidden food preparation areas/appliance cupboards/ breakfast cupboards/study nooks; and even an integrated dog bed and door in the laundry.
Jo made the whole renovating process relatively easy and fun. She worked with us to ensure we understood and were happy with our plans. Where we had specific requests, she seamlessly incorporated them and was even able to convince Eric that one wine room above the ground would be enough (thank you for that Jo!). Her attention to detail – including things we would never have thought of, has meant everything works perfectly. When it came to internal finishes, having ascertained what we might like, Jo narrowed the final selection process for us, making it very easy to select beautiful colours and finishes. We recently completed a major renovation and extension to our Heritage Listed home in Hawthorn with Jo, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with not just the outcome, but also the process along the way.
Jo was able to come into our old house and see visions and ideas that we had no idea even existed, and within days we had all of this on paper and we were able to visualise and discuss all the options with her. From this point on, we were very comfortable with the process of planning and conceptualising our new home.

We just wanted to let you know we’ve been in our place a month now and could not be happier.
Aesthetically the place is wonderful but perhaps even more pleasing is the practical functionality of the design which makes managing a young family much easier. Everything from great storage, we now have a place for the kids school bags, homework and laundry separation (which the kids are loving) through to little things like ensuring we have adequate coverage of power points in exactly the right location across the house has been thought of. Many friends have already commented they love the butler’s pantry layout which means our kitchen work area is concealed from the main kitchen area making entertaining simple.

We were recommended Jo after we admired her work on a friend’s recent renovation, where she had done a beautiful remodelling of a Californian Bungalow with upstairs extension. Knowing our friend’s had a keen eye for a well costed and practical solution to their home we approached Jo to look at our home, an architect designed, 1980’s modern, two storey, flat roofed house that needed significant reworking to fit our expanding family and manage the separate needs of four children, particularly with respect to zoning the living areas.
Jo set about designing a home that fulfilled these needs, working with a long “wish list” and working as much as possible within the existing structure to minimise cost. She has an excellent ability to judge the spaces and fit a house together in a way that is always aesthetically pleasing but very practical as well. Her interest in is the outcome looking fantastic but she appreciates we all need to live in our homes and they need to work for us and not against us! This is something we think is unique about Jo and her designs, based on previous experience with other designers and building groups.
Her ability is not only with the structural design but then with the amazing cabinetry, kitchen and bathrooms she puts together and then the final and all important touch of the finishes. She is a winner on all these fronts and then is a delight to work with on the project, she is easy to contact, easy to approach and works with you to solve any problems. She will truly create for you a Beautiful Home. Her relationship with her preferred builders is also an incredible asset to the design and build. One friend remarked to us that our renovation (the source of major life stress for many) had seemed to be an aberration in its easy execution, this is in no small way due to Jo’s design, organisation and planning and relationships with key stakeholders in her industry. Everything has a place. There is no reason for clutter or mess as the home has more storage then I can fill. I love the additional functions and features which considered the children’s school bags and every day clutter, which again is all taken care of through your clever design.
Importantly there is nothing in the home that we look at and think we wished we had have done that differently. In fact we find ourselves actually thinking how lucky we were to have had your input because we know there would have been a number of things which we would not have turned our untrained renovators eye to and on completion stage we would have be left thinking if only we had have known that in advance, we would have changed it. We love the home you created for us and because of your attention to detail the building phase went exactly to plan without a single hitch.
Finally your industry knowledge allowed us to source items for our home at very competitive prices. You were always willing to give design advice to the point where you completely changed our perspective on the size and design of our couch to which we are now eternally grateful. No regrets and everlasting appreciation’ is the best way that we can think of to sum up our experience having commissioned Jo McIntyre to design our home renovation / extension and it is with much delight that we provide this testimonial.
When we embarked on our project, never in our wildest dreams did we think that we would be living in such a wonderful creation and we have no hesitation in declaring that the amazing results were largely due to Jo.
Many words come to mind when we reflect on our experience and time spent working with Jo; consummate professional, dynamo, highly organised (always many steps ahead), unwavering support (she was with us every step of the way), passionate attention to detail, willingness to listen to our needs and adapt the designs to meet these needs, friendship and quite simply a design eye that many of her colleagues would die for.
However it’s not only Jo’s design talents that she brings to the table. Thanks to her wealth of experience Jo has an intimate knowledge of the complex building process and is always willing and able to provide advice and guidance throughout the entire project. She also applies an intelligent understanding of function to her beautiful designs; resulting in a floor plan that ‘works’. There is nothing in our design that we would want to change or wish we had done differently and now having lived in the home we continue to be delighted with its functionality, thereby making every-day living a pleasure and a breeze.
One last word about Jo; she takes on each project as if it was her own and works tirelessly to deliver a design and creation that she herself loves. It’s refreshing and extremely satisfying to work with someone who has as much passion invested in the project as you do and an imperative attribute to ensure a harmonious process and amazing end product.
We always wanted to create a beautiful home in which to raise our family and now thanks to Jo we have!

Dear Jo,
I just wanted to send you a quick email before you go on holiday tomorrow to say thank you so much for designing such a magnificent and beautiful house for us. It is absolutely perfect and I would not change a thing. We would love you to come over and have a glass of champagne to see it finished when you come home (hopefully I will be more unpacked then and able to show it to you at its best). You were a constant reassuring presence throughout the process and answered so many questions for me, from toilets, to couches, shutters and teflon coated fabrics. Simon and I found the whole process so easy thanks to you and also to Rod’s amazing professionalism and quiet ability to get things done so well.Have a really wonderful trip. We would like to formally thank you for designing our dream home. You have been an absolute pleasure to work with and given our lack of experience in this area our security blanket all the way. We cannot thank you enough for your guidance, support and tireless work throughout the entire process.When we purchased our land we had no idea of the type of house we wanted. We always loved the period style homes, but having seen some poor reproductions we did not think we could build an authentic one. As soon as we met with you and saw your work we felt confident that we could achieve our dream.
At the commencement of the project you undertook to design our home and to provide guidance through the build stage. We were thoroughly impressed by your dedication and attention to detail during the design stage which produced an amazing design far in excess of what we expected and hoped for.
Having worked through the design stage with you so closely it was with some nervousness that we embarked on the build phase. To our amazement and relief you were with us all the way. It took a huge amount of pressure off us (and gave us a significant amount of confidence) that both we and the builder could contact you at any time for questions or clarifications and you always made yourself available.
We can honestly say that the whole process has been relatively stress free for us and that this largely attributable to you. Whilst we have no intention of rebuilding or renovating in the future (now that we are in our dream home) we would have absolutely no hesitation in working with you again or recommending you to others in the future.

Throughout our entire renovation planning process, Jo has always been efficient, honest and professional.
Her attention to detail has been brilliant.
Her ability to create amazing storage areas for everything from school bags and DVD players to hanging out the washing is amazing.

I have had a lot of friends recently who are renovating, use architects who have designed grandiose plans.
They have paid an absolute fortune for the plans and in 3 separate occasions the clients have been unable to use the plans, as the clients initial budget brief has been extended by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Jo works with you to ensure the plans you decide on are within the budget you want to spend.

This is the second project we have engaged Jo McIntyre for. Her ideas are innovative, stylish and practical.
As a mother of three, I’m always interested in finding better organisation and storage solutions to make our busy lifestyle more calm and relaxed And I have to say, this is Jo’s specialty. I look to Jo knowing as a mother of a growing family herself, she has already been where I am about to go -and makes the whole journey look streamlined and effortless. Jo has also achieved this for us through her creative and bespoke approach and subsequent design.
